Continuing the Journey

The work continues

The first retreat unfolded in Bhutan around a sustained process of purification. Equinox Retreat 2027 carries that work into a new sacred geography, opening beside the waters of Amritsar before rising into the Tibetan Buddhist world of Dharamshala.

You do not need to have attended Bhutan. Every participant will receive preparatory teachings and practices before travel, creating a shared foundation for the retreat. Returning participants can deepen the earlier work, while first-time participants enter through a complete and carefully guided beginning.

The March equinox offers a natural threshold: a moment of balance, transition, and renewed direction. We will use that outer turning as a framework for honest inner purification, disciplined practice, and a clearer relationship with what comes next.

Continuity

A genuine sequel to Bhutan, carrying the same commitment to depth while opening a new field of practice.

A Complete Beginning

New participants receive the context and preparation needed to enter the retreat fully.

Equinox Threshold

A shared passage through balance, purification, intention, and renewed direction.

Bhutan opened the first chapter. The equinox journey asks what we are ready to release, renew, and embody.

Carried Forward from Bhutan

The Inner Vessel

The Bhutan companion continues as the foundation for a new Equinox Retreat volume.

The teachings of The Inner Vessel continue into Equinox Retreat 2027. The Bhutan companion held the first six fields of its karma curriculum, with space for teaching, preparation, reflection, and the commitments carried home. Returning participants will deepen that work, while first-time participants receive the preparation needed to enter it with clarity.

Every participant will also receive a new physical Equinox Retreat companion volume created for this journey. It will follow The Inner Vessel’s considered format while carrying new teachings, preparatory practices, reflection space, and integration work shaped for Amritsar and Dharamshala.

The teaching is received in sacred place; the inner vessel is what allows it to be carried home.

The material practice

Preparations held with care

Traditional supports are approached as part of a wider ritual discipline, with attention to lineage, provenance, preparation, and the individual.

Turmeric and black pepper preparations, carefully wrapped Tibetan precious pills, and a brass vajra arranged on woven cloth
Traditional preparations shown for context. Final selection and presentation may vary.

Ayurvedic Preparations

The retreat is being developed to include optional, traditionally prepared turmeric and black-pepper formulations within an Ayurvedic framework, subject to confirmed sourcing and individual suitability. Full ingredients and clear guidance will be shared before any use.

Vajrayana Precious Pills

We are seeking appropriately sourced rinchen rilbu, or jewel pills, from traditional sources. Vajrayana is the Vajra or Diamond Vehicle, the esoteric Buddhist path of transmission, mantra, ritual, subtle-body discipline, and teachings on the vajra or diamond body. Within Shambhala, its immediacy is also contemplated as the Lightning Path. Any inclusion depends on authentic provenance, disclosed composition, and appropriate lineage or practitioner guidance; receiving a precious pill does not itself constitute empowerment or initiation.

Any traditional preparation is optional and offered only with provenance, individual guidance, and appropriate care; it does not replace personal medical advice.

A threshold of balance, completion and compassionate responsibility

March 2027 carries a meaningful invitation to pause, reflect, and deepen our spiritual practice. Through the lens of sidereal Vedic astrology, the planetary patterns surrounding the equinox bring together themes of compassion, responsibility, and the release of deeply held patterns.

The March equinox occurs in India at 1:54 am IST on 21 March, as the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north. With day and night approaching equal length, this seasonal turning offers a natural symbol of balance between action and stillness, giving and receiving, our inner life, and our responsibilities in the world.

Sun in Pisces

By the equinox, the Sun is travelling through Pisces, the final sign of the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology. Traditionally associated with completion, compassion, and spiritual freedom, Pisces offers a fitting setting for pilgrimage and contemplation. What are we ready to complete, forgive, or release before beginning another chapter?

Jupiter retrograde in Cancer

Jupiter remains in Cancer throughout March and appears to move backwards from Earth’s perspective. Cancer is traditionally considered a place of special strength for Jupiter, associated with wisdom, guidance, and generosity. This invites us to revisit teachings, examine inherited beliefs, and cultivate a more compassionate relationship with ourselves.

Saturn in Pisces

Saturn continues through Pisces, bringing discipline and responsibility into this contemplative setting. Its teaching is practical: give spiritual understanding a place in everyday life. Regular meditation, honest reflection, patient service, and keeping our commitments make inner change tangible.

Mars retrograde in Cancer

Mars moves backwards into Cancer before the equinox. In traditional interpretation, this is a more sensitive setting for the planet of action and assertion. It offers a useful focus for examining defensiveness, frustration, and habitual reactions through patience, gentle movement, and space to respond thoughtfully.

These themes give our journey from the Golden Temple to Dharamshala a meaningful spiritual context. Devotion and selfless service begin the journey; meditation and reflection help us carry its lessons inward. Each person experiences the wider planetary patterns through their own birth chart, while our shared intention remains clear: to meet life with greater awareness, compassion, and freedom of choice.

The water, the story, the invitation

Amrit Sarovar · Sacred Tradition

The water, the story, the invitation

At the edge of Amrit Sarovar stands Dukh Bhanjani Beri, the tree whose name is associated with the eradication of suffering. A cherished Sikh tradition tells of Bibi Rajni’s ailing husband watching dark-feathered crows enter the water and emerge transformed, their plumage turned white. Trusting what he had witnessed, he bathed and was restored.

We approach this account as sacred tradition, not spectacle. It becomes a contemplation on grace, renewal, the cleansing of the heart, and the possibility of inner transformation. Within this retreat, it also becomes a mirror for the Buddhist work of purification: meeting karma with honesty, devotion, disciplined practice, and right action.

Our three days in Amritsar centre on reverent visits, prayer, kirtan, silence, contemplation, and seva around Sri Harmandir Sahib. The Golden Temple is a living centre of Sikh faith, equality, music, and service. All visits remain subject to the customs, access, and guidance of the site.

The Outer Journey

Two sacred landscapes. One inward movement.

The retreat moves with intention from water to mountain, from the Sikh heart of Amritsar into a living centre of Tibetan Buddhist practice and culture in exile.

I · Amritsar · Days 1–3

Arrive slowly and enter Sri Harmandir Sahib with reverence. Dawn and evening visits around Amrit Sarovar, listening to Gurbani kirtan, contemplation on the sacred-water tradition, and seva where appropriate. Foundation-led teachings and practices take place only where properly arranged.

II · Dharamshala · Days 4–7/8

The journey rises into Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj beneath the Dhauladhar range, near the Main Tibetan Temple, the Dalai Lama’s residence, monasteries, libraries, and contemplative communities. Daily practice, teachings, ritual process, and integration are held alongside respectful visits, subject to access.

Visits and practices will be confirmed with respect for local guidance, permissions, and living communities.

The Inner Architecture

What the retreat will hold

The final practice schedule will be shaped around the group, the places, and the ritual requirements. These are the essential threads of the journey.

Purification Teachings

Clear guidance on karma, obscuration, responsibility, and the difference between release, avoidance, and genuine transformation.

Sacred-Water Contemplation

A carefully contextualised encounter with Amrit Sarovar and the sacred traditions surrounding water, grace, and renewal.

Mantra & Prayer

Daily recitation, devotional attention, and collective prayer used to gather the mind and strengthen intention.

Vajrayana Ritual Process

A progressive sequence of purification practices held in appropriate private or arranged settings, with the necessary context and preparation.

Silence & Reflection

Periods of quiet, journalling, contemplative walking, and personal integration so experience can become understanding.

Integration & Service

A return to daily life with clear commitments, practical continuity, and an orientation toward compassionate action.

A Complete Entry for New Participants

Bhutan is not a prerequisite

Preparation creates the shared foundation.

Before travel, every participant will receive a guided preparation period. This will introduce the retreat’s language, ethical frame, foundational purification practices, practical expectations, and the inner commitments needed to arrive ready.

Returning participants will reconnect with the first retreat and deepen its unfinished work. New participants will receive a coherent entry rather than fragments or assumptions. Both groups then meet inside one shared field of practice.

Preparation is part of the retreat itself. It begins before the flight, and its integration continues after the group returns home.
